About Compress PDF
Compress a PDF in your browser. Each page is rendered with pdf.js and re-encoded as an optimised JPEG inside a rebuilt PDF (pdf-lib), with three presets from "high quality" to "smallest file". This is extremely effective for scanned documents — often 60–90% smaller — and the tool reports the exact saving. Trade-off to know honestly: pages become images, so text is no longer selectable; for text-born PDFs that must stay searchable, use your PDF app's built-in optimizer instead. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
How does PDF compression work here?+
Every page is re-rendered and re-encoded as an efficient JPEG, then a new PDF is rebuilt around those images. For scans — which are images already — this routinely cuts 60–90% of the size.
Will my text still be selectable?+
No — compressed pages become images, so selection and search are lost. This is the right trade for scans and for files that just need to fit a limit; keep an original copy for editing.
Which preset should I use?+
Start with Balanced. If the file still misses your limit, try Smallest (best for text scans). High Quality keeps photos and fine detail at a larger size.
Is my PDF uploaded?+
No — rendering, compression and rebuilding all run in your browser.
