The correlation coefficient runs from +1 (mono / perfectly in phase) through 0 (wide, decorrelated stereo) to −1 (fully out of phase — silent in mono). Broadcast and club systems sum to mono, so anything that lives below ~0 will hollow out or vanish there. The mono-sum drop shows how much level you lose when L+R collapse.
