UUID Decoder & Analyzer

Decode any UUID: version, variant, and for v1/v6/v7 the embedded timestamp, node MAC and clock sequence.

About UUID Decoder & Analyzer

UUID Decoder analyzes any UUID or GUID and reveals its version and variant โ€” and for time-based versions (v1, v6, v7) it extracts the embedded timestamp, node and clock sequence. It is the quickest way to tell what kind of identifier you are looking at and when it was created.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get the timestamp out of a UUID?+

Yes โ€” for versions 1, 6 and 7. UUIDv7 embeds a millisecond Unix timestamp and UUIDv1/v6 embed a 100-nanosecond Gregorian timestamp, all of which this tool converts to a readable UTC date. UUIDv4 is purely random and contains no decodable time.

How do I tell which UUID version I have?+

The version is the 13th hex digit (the first character of the third group). This decoder reads it for you and names the scheme โ€” random, time-based, name-based MD5/SHA-1, or the newer RFC 9562 versions.

Is it free to use?+

Yes โ€” completely free with no sign-up, no account and no usage limits. There is no paywall, so you can encode, decode and convert as much as you like.

Is my data private and secure?+

Yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript โ€” your input is never uploaded to a server, stored or logged. Once the page has loaded you can use it offline, which makes it safe for tokens, keys and confidential data.
