Why do POHs divide moments by 1,000?+
Bookkeeping ergonomics from the slide-rule era: real moments run to six digits (2,300 lb × 45 in = 103,500), inviting transcription errors down a handwritten column. Dividing by 1,000 keeps every entry to a tidy 2–4 digits, matching the loading-graph axes. Some types use /100 — check your POH's column header before mixing tools.
Why must the empty moment come from the record rather than weight × arm?+
They're the same thing — when the arm is current. The W&B record states the moment (or arm) measured/computed at the last reweigh or alteration; quoting a generic 'typical arm' and multiplying reintroduces exactly the per-airframe error the record exists to eliminate. Copy the record's number; let the calculator handle only the day's loading.
How do I check the result against the moment-limits table?+
POHs with table-method sections print, for each weight, the minimum and maximum allowable moment/1000 (the envelope's edges in moment form). Find your total weight's row and confirm your total moment falls between the columns. This tool's CG output lets you cross-check on the graphical envelope too — the two methods must agree.
Which method is better for everyday use?+
