Shipment Exception & Delay Log
Log every roll, hold, delay and damage event with cause and cost — the dataset that fixes lanes.
An exception without a logged cost is a complaint; with one, it's negotiation data. Estimate honestly — even rough dollars beat none.

This tracker stores data locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded. It complements (not replaces) carrier track-and-trace: enter milestones from your carrier's notifications to keep one consolidated, private view across all providers.
Every operation remembers its disasters and forgets its pattern. The rolled booking in March, the exam hold in May, the carrier no-show before the holiday — each handled heroically, none recorded, so the carrier review meeting runs on anecdotes and the same lane fails the same way next quarter. This log converts disruption into data: type, lane, carrier, days lost, dollars burned.
About Shipment Exception & Delay Log
The summary strip totals the cost of unreliability — a number procurement can use. Carriers compete on rate because shippers measure rate; a quarter of logged exceptions lets you measure the rest: Carrier A's $50/box discount versus their three rolls and $14,000 of logged impact stops being a rhetorical point and becomes arithmetic. Log everything within a day of learning it, including exceptions you absorbed silently — the silent ones are the pattern's missing half. Damage entries do double duty as the claims register; rolled-booking entries feed the rollover-rate KPI; customs holds feed your broker review. One habit, four datasets.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as an exception worth logging?+
Anything that moved a date, cost money, or required unplanned work: rolls, vessel slips beyond a day or two, holds and exams, doc errors that delayed release, equipment shortages, damage, no-shows. The bar should be low — a 'minor' two-day slip logged ten times across a quarter is a lane problem that ten unlogged slips never become.
How do I estimate the cost of a delay?+
Sum the concrete pieces: charges incurred (demurrage, storage, expedite premium), labor rescheduled, sales or production impact if real, and penalty clauses triggered. Be conservative and consistent rather than precise — the value is comparative (which lanes and carriers cost most), and consistent rough numbers compare perfectly well.
What's a normal rolled-booking rate?+
Industry-wide rollover rates have run anywhere from a few percent in slack markets to 30%+ during crunches. Your number matters more than the benchmark: if one carrier rolls you twice as often as another at the same rate level, the cheaper rate is being financed by your buffer stock. The summary's roll count divided by your quarterly bookings gives the rate in one division.
How does this log change carrier negotiations?+
It converts the conversation from rate-per-box to landed-cost-of-using-you. A page that says 'six exceptions, 31 days, $22,400 logged impact this quarter' supports asks no rate sheet can refuse outright: free time extensions, rollover protection clauses, priority loading, or simply a different carrier. Procurement teams with exception data negotiate terms; those without negotiate pennies.
