LAPL Medical Expiry Tracker
Track the EASA LAPL medical certificate's age-banded validity (60 months under 40, 24 from 40) with renewal warnings.
MED.A.045: the LAPL medical is valid 60 months until age 40 and 24 months thereafter โ and a certificate issued before 40 stops being valid at 42.

Free LAPL medical tracker for European recreational pilots: the age-banded validity rules (including the age-42 cutoff trap) reduced to one colour-coded expiry board with 60-day warnings.
About LAPL Medical Expiry Tracker
The LAPL medical is Europe's lightest-touch certificate โ examinable by AMEs and, in several states, by suitably authorised GPs โ but its validity rules carry a trap: 60 months when issued under age 40, 24 months from 40, AND a certificate issued before your 40th birthday ceases to be valid once you turn 42 (MED.A.045). Pilots who got a five-year certificate at 38 routinely assume it runs to 43; it doesn't. This tracker stores your actual expiry โ apply the age rule once, correctly โ and warns 60 days out, with room for satellite items like specialist reports where your AME requires them. For LAPL flyers mixing club aircraft and touring, it's the one date that silently gates everything else.
How to use LAPL Medical Expiry Tracker
- 1Work out your true expiry under the age bands (mind the age-42 rule) and enter it.
- 2Add any AME-required satellite items with their own dates.
- 3Renew when the badge goes amber โ GPs and AMEs both book ahead.

Frequently asked questions
What is the LAPL medical age-42 trap exactly?+
MED.A.045(a)(2): a LAPL medical issued before age 40 is valid for 60 months, EXCEPT it cannot remain valid beyond the holder's 42nd birthday. So a certificate issued at 38 years 6 months expires at 42, not at 43 years 6 months. The same structure recurs at 50 for the 24-month band in some applications. Compute your real expiry once, store it here, and the badge โ not arithmetic at the flying club โ carries the risk.
Can a GP really issue a LAPL medical?+
In some EASA states, yes โ the LAPL framework allows member states to authorise general practitioners to perform LAPL medical assessments (the UK ran a self-declaration scheme pre-Brexit; several states use GP pathways). Availability varies by country, so check your NAA's current guidance. Whoever signs it, the validity math is the same, and so is the value of a 60-day warning.
Does the LAPL medical work outside Europe?+
The LAPL itself is an EASA-only licence โ it isn't ICAO-compliant, so neither the licence nor its medical travels outside EASA member states (and arrangements like the UK situation post-Brexit add wrinkles). If you're planning to fly elsewhere, you'll be operating on a different licence and medical anyway; track those separately on the ratings & documents board.
Why doesn't this tool sync to the cloud?+
By design: career and currency records are sensitive, and the simplest privacy guarantee is never transmitting them. Local-only storage means zero servers, zero breach surface and zero subscription. If you fly from several devices, keep one as the master record and move snapshots between machines with the CSV export.
Can I get my data out if I switch tools later?+
Always โ the CSV export is a complete, lossless dump of your medical record, generated locally in one click. Import it into commercial logbook software, archive it in your records folder, or post-process it in a spreadsheet. No lock-in is a deliberate design decision: data you can't take with you isn't really yours.
